Sharing Damage Status and Discussing Recovery and Support Measures
Yeongdeok County held its first consultative meeting on the 18th to lead social discussions and develop strategic response measures regarding the large-scale wildfire damage that occurred last month.
This meeting was convened to share the damage suffered by forestry workers whose livelihoods have been threatened by the worst wildfire, which started in Uiseong County, North Gyeongsang Province, on the 22nd of last month and spread to Yeongdeok County on the 25th. The meeting also aimed to establish government-level support measures in response.
The meeting was attended by Kim Gwangyeol, Governor of Yeongdeok County, relevant department heads, Yang Seonghak, President of the Yeongdeok County Forestry Cooperative, Yoon Byunghee, President of the Yeongdeok County Chapter of the Korea Forestry Successors Association, and Lee Sangbeom, President of the Yeongdeok County Wild Pine Mushroom Producers Association. They shared the current status of wildfire damage and discussed recovery plans.
Based on the discussions from this consultative meeting, the county plans to develop measures for forestry workers affected by the disaster. Yeongdeok County will also continue to coordinate with relevant agencies and organizations on future actions and forest restoration plans.
Governor Kim Gwangyeol stated, "Given the severe damage suffered by local residents and forestry workers from the worst wildfire in history, we recognize the gravity of the current situation. We will make every effort to ensure that the positions and opinions of all stakeholders are fully shared and discussed, and that systematic and swift recovery and support measures are implemented."
On the 17th, forestry workers and forest organizations in Yeongdeok County launched the 'Yeongdeok Wildfire Forestry Victims Countermeasures Committee' and appointed Lee Sangbeom and Yoon Byunghee as co-chairs.
