Deputy Prime Minister Choi: "Will Open the Door to Renewed Discussions to Further Solidify the Korea-US Alliance"

Departs for the United States on the 22nd
to Attend Trade Consultation and G20 Meeting

Choi Sangmok, Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs and Minister of Strategy and Finance, stated on the 22nd, ahead of the Korea-US Trade Consultation, "I will return after opening the door to renewed discussions that will further solidify the Korea-US alliance."


Deputy Prime Minister Choi made this remark at Incheon International Airport on the morning of the 22nd, prior to his departure for the United States.

This week, Deputy Prime Minister Choi will attend the Korea-US 2+2 Trade Consultation, the G20 Finance Ministers Meeting, and the International Monetary and Financial Committee (IMFC) in Washington D.C.


The Korea-US 2+2 Trade Consultation will be held at 9:00 p.m. on the 24th (8:00 a.m. local time). Deputy Prime Minister Choi and Ahn Dukgeun, Minister of Trade, Industry, and Energy, are scheduled to participate. On the US side, Scott Besent, US Secretary of the Treasury, and Jamieson Greer, Representative of the US Trade Representative (USTR), will attend.


Deputy Prime Minister Choi will also participate in the 2025 2nd G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors Meeting, which will take place on the 23rd and 24th. This meeting is held in conjunction with the IMF and World Bank Spring Meetings.


On the 25th, he is scheduled to attend the IMFC meeting as a representative of an IMF member country. The IMFC is an advisory body to the IMF Board of Governors, composed of representatives from 25 member countries, and convenes every April and October.


During this period, Deputy Prime Minister Choi also plans to hold meetings with key finance ministers from countries such as China and Germany, as well as with European Union (EU) commissioners, the President of the World Bank (WB), and Moody's, the international credit rating agency.
