Andong City Accelerates Wildfire Waste Disposal for Rapid Recovery

482,000 Tons of Waste Generated, Disposal Costs Reach 43 Billion Won
Minimizing Resident Inconvenience Through Eco-Friendly Waste Separation and Processing

Andong City in Gyeongbuk has begun full-scale waste disposal operations in six areas, including Gilan-myeon, which suffered extensive damage from a large wildfire, accelerating the restoration of the affected regions.

Andong City Accelerates Wildfire Waste Disposal for Rapid Recovery Andong City, Gyeongbuk is accelerating the restoration of the affected areas by promptly processing waste resulting from the wildfire.

According to the city, approximately 482,000 tons of waste were generated by the wildfire, based on the National Disaster Management System (NDMS), and the total disposal cost is expected to reach 43 billion won.

The city is actively promoting environmentally friendly waste management by avoiding simple landfill or incineration and instead separating and recycling waste by type.

From April 21, as the demolition of houses began in earnest, construction waste, mixed waste, designated waste, and plant residues have been sorted and processed separately.

Construction waste and other mixed waste are transported to five temporary transfer stations within the city for processing, while designated waste such as asbestos-containing slate is dismantled and safely disposed of on site.

In particular, about 2,500 tons of plant residues in the Namhu Industrial Complex were preemptively processed to minimize secondary pollution.

For this operation, Andong City has mobilized all available equipment, including 60 dump trucks, 15 excavators, wheel loaders, and arm roll trucks, to expedite waste disposal.

A city official stated, "We are doing our utmost to ensure a swift and systematic recovery so that we can provide even a small measure of support to residents who have suffered significant losses due to the wildfire."
