Sungjae Im Set for Korean Debut: "A Three-Peat Is My Definite Goal"

Woori Financial Championship to Open at Seowon Valley on April 24
Aiming for a Historic Three-Peat, First in 26 Years
"I Am Determined to Achieve a Three-Peat at This Tournament"

World No. 20 Sungjae Im is set to make history in Paju.

From April 24, he will compete for four days at the KPGA Tour Woori Financial Championship (total prize money: 1.5 billion KRW) held at Seowon Valley Country Club in Paju, Gyeonggi Province. He boarded a flight to Korea immediately after finishing the PGA Tour RBC Heritage.

Sungjae Im, who has two career wins on the PGA Tour, has a clear goal: to achieve a three-peat at a tournament sponsored by his sub-sponsor. In 2023, he came from five shots behind in a tie for fourth after the third round to win the tournament, and last year, he shot a 3-under-par 69 in the final round to secure a one-stroke victory. This marked his third career win on the KPGA Tour.

There have only been six instances of a three-peat at a single tournament in KPGA Tour history. Park Namshin accomplished this feat at the SBS Pro Golf Championship from 1997 to 1999. If Sungjae Im wins this tournament, he will become the first player in 26 years to set such a record.

His recent form has also been strong. Two weeks ago, he tied for fifth at the Masters, and last week, he finished tied for 11th at the RBC Heritage. While adjusting to the time difference remains a variable, his ball-striking is in good shape. Sungjae Im commented, "Achieving a three-peat at the Woori Financial Championship is a goal I am determined to accomplish. I would appreciate the support of many fans coming out to the course."

Immediately after this tournament, Sungjae Im will head straight back to the United States to compete in the PGA Tour's The CJ Cup Byron Nelson (total prize money: 9.9 million USD), which will be held at TPC Craig Ranch in McKinney, Texas, starting May 1.
