The National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (MMCA) announced on April 21 that it will host the "MMCA Members Day" event, inviting both paid and free members, at MMCA Seoul on May 7.
The event, themed "Hospitality and Sincerity," will feature new exhibition tours, a coffee tasting, and an opera gala performance.
Programs for paid members include "Contemporary Art and Tea Ceremony - Chagyeong (Tea Scenery)" and the "MMCA Drawing Workshop." "Contemporary Art and Tea Ceremony - Chagyeong (Tea Scenery)," held in partnership with lifestyle furniture brand iloom, will take place in the membership lounge. Participants will enjoy tea and conversation inspired by five works from the MMCA Art Bank collection on display in the lounge, including Jung Sanghwa's "Untitled" (1987) and Chun Kwang Young's "Aggregation 001-SE115" (2001).
The MMCA Drawing Workshop will be held inside the Ron Mueck exhibition hall. Instructions and drawing materials will be provided to ensure even beginners with no drawing experience can participate. The workshop will be led by Kwon Hyekyung, a 20th-term resident artist at MMCA Goyang Residency.
The "Art Museum Opera Gala: Art Museum Meets Opera," presented in collaboration with the Korea National Opera, will be open to both paid and free members. The event will feature famous opera arias, accompanied by commentary from Kim Junghyun, an MBC announcer and passionate classical music enthusiast. Paid members will have access to early reservations starting at 2:00 p.m. on April 22, while free members can attend on a first-come, first-served basis on the day of the event.
The "Lobby Cafe" coffee tasting will offer one free cup of coffee to paid members. Free members can purchase coffee at a discounted price.
Kim Sunghee, director of the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, stated, "Last year's inaugural Members Day was a membership festival that welcomed friends and families of the MMCA. Going forward, the museum will continue to strengthen the member community for contemporary art and cultural exchange, and will further expand and develop communication with our members."
The MMCA Membership consists of Friend (free), Family (70,000 KRW), and Family (100,000 KRW) tiers. Free members receive four complimentary lounge visits per year and one hour of free parking. Paid members enjoy free exhibition admission, 60 complimentary lounge visits per year, free parking, and 10-20% discount coupons for the cafe and restaurant.
