Attorney Kim Youngjin Appointed as New President of Korea Legal Aid Corporation

The Ministry of Justice announced on April 18 that it has appointed attorney Kim Youngjin (21st class of the Judicial Research and Training Institute) as the 16th president of the Korea Legal Aid Corporation, following the recommendation of the corporation’s Presidential Candidate Recommendation Committee. The president’s term is three years.

Kim, the new president, graduated from Korea University School of Law and began his career as a prosecutor at the Seoul District Prosecutors’ Office Dongbu Branch in 1992. He has held key positions including prosecutor at the Seoul District Prosecutors’ Office, member of the Joint Task Force on Financial Corruption at the Central Investigation Department of the Supreme Prosecutors’ Office, director of the Criminal Division 2 and Organized Crime Division at the Supreme Prosecutors’ Office, head of the Violent Crime Division at the Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office, spokesperson for the Ministry of Justice, director of Criminal Intelligence Planning at the Supreme Prosecutors’ Office, and deputy chief prosecutor at the Suwon District Prosecutors’ Office. Since 2016, he has worked as an attorney at Kim & Chang law firm.


The Ministry of Justice stated, "Based on his diverse experience as a prosecutor and attorney, we expect Kim, the new president, to make significant contributions to the advancement of the Korea Legal Aid Corporation’s mission to provide legal aid to socially and economically disadvantaged groups."


The Korea Legal Aid Corporation is a legal aid organization established in 1987 under the Legal Aid Act, with the purpose of providing legal assistance to socially and economically disadvantaged individuals who are unable to receive adequate legal protection due to financial hardship or lack of legal knowledge.
