Samsung Electronics President Yang Geol Donates 100 Million Won to Alma Mater Pusan National University

A Semiconductor Leader on the Global Stage Gives Back to Alma Mater with Love for Juniors
"Pusan National University Was the Foundation of My Growth; I Hope Juniors Grow into Global Talents Who Leap into the World"

Pusan National University (President Choi Jaewon) announced on the 18th that Yang Geol, President of Samsung Electronics and Head of the China Strategic Cooperation Office, who is an alumnus of the Department of Political Science and International Relations at the College of Social Sciences, donated 100 million won to his alma mater on the 12th.


Through this donation, President Yang designated 10% each to support the Department of Political Science and International Relations, where he studied, and the "Possible Club," a current affairs English club he was active in during his student days. He requested that the remaining 80% be used for the university's overall development and for scholarship and support programs for current students.


Pusan National University plans to use the donation in accordance with the donor’s wishes to improve the educational environment of the Department of Political Science and International Relations, revitalize club activities, and promote projects for the university’s development.


President Yang entered Pusan National University’s Department of Political Science and International Relations in 1981 and currently serves as President and Head of the China Strategic Cooperation Office at Samsung Electronics. As a sales and marketing expert leading the global semiconductor industry, he has pioneered local markets through various overseas sales subsidiaries and has spearheaded Samsung Electronics’ global strategies.


In particular, he played a pivotal role in expanding Samsung Electronics’ semiconductor business in China while serving as Head of China Operations and Deputy Head of the China Strategic Cooperation Office. In recognition of these achievements, he was awarded the Gold Tower Order of Industrial Service Merit at the 55th Trade Day in 2018.


President Yang stated, "The spirit of Hyowon and the time I spent at Pusan National University became an important foundation for who I am today. I hope that many outstanding juniors will continue to grow into global talents who leap from Pusan National University to the world," adding, "I hope this donation serves as a stepping stone for my alma mater’s greater progress and for juniors to venture out into the wider world."


Pusan National University President Choi Jaewon expressed his gratitude, saying, "President Yang’s donation is not just financial support but a symbolic message that gives juniors the courage to take on the world stage. The donation will be used with care to strengthen students’ capabilities and enhance their international competitiveness."


Pusan National University plans to further expand a variety of programs to foster globally competent talents and to pursue sustainable university development together with its alumni.
