"China Calls Itself a 'Peace Mediator'
While Supporting Russia, North Korea, and Iran"
The United States has warned China, claiming that Yemen's Iran-aligned Houthi rebels are receiving support from a Chinese satellite company.
Tami Bruce, spokesperson for the U.S. State Department, officially confirmed on the 17th (local time) during a briefing that the Financial Times (FT) report about China's Chang Guang Satellite Technology Company is accurate. On the same day, the FT reported, citing U.S. officials, that the Houthi rebels are receiving satellite imagery necessary to target U.S. warships and multinational commercial vessels from Chang Guang Satellite Technology Company.
Spokesperson Bruce pointed out that although the U.S. government raised concerns about Chang Guang Satellite's actions with the Chinese government in private, China continues to support Chang Guang Satellite, stating, "This is yet another example showing that China's claim to pursue peace is merely rhetoric."
Bruce further criticized China for portraying itself as a global peace mediator while in reality providing economic and technological support to Russia, North Korea, Iran, and their proxy forces. He asserted, "The Chinese Communist Party continues to assist these regimes," claiming that China supplies Russia with dual-use products necessary to sustain the war in Ukraine, and aids North Korea's ballistic missile development and Iran's terrorist activities.
Bruce warned, "Restoring freedom of navigation in the Red Sea is a priority for President Trump," adding, "The United States will not tolerate anyone supporting foreign terrorist organizations like the Houthis."
Supported by Iran, the Houthis have indiscriminately attacked international commercial vessels and U.S. warships passing near the Red Sea to assist Hamas since the outbreak of the war between Israel and Hamas. In response, the U.S. conducted airstrikes on Houthi military bases in Yemen during the previous Joe Biden administration, and under the Trump administration, attacks by the Houthis on U.S. warships and U.S. efforts to counter them have continued repeatedly.
Additionally, the U.S. Central Command announced on the same day that it conducted airstrikes on the Yemeni port of Ras Isa, which supplies fuel to the Houthis. The U.S. Treasury Department also sanctioned the International Bank of Yemen (IBY) for financially supporting the Houthis.
