Gangjin County, South Jeolla Province (Governor Kang Jinwon) held the opening ceremony for the 'Gangjin Cinema,' located on the third floor of the Eoullim Center in Gangjin-eup, on the 17th, coinciding with the center's completion ceremony.
According to the county on the 18th, this opening marks the revival of a movie theater returning to the local community for the first time in over 30 years since the closure of Gangjin Theater in the early 1990s, drawing significant attention and enthusiastic response from residents.

At the opening ceremony, actor Kim Euisung, who is originally from Gangjin, attended and gave a stage greeting before the movie screening in the lobby, saying, "I am very proud that such a wonderful cultural space has been established in my parents' hometown. I hope Gangjin Cinema becomes a place of memories and comfort for many people."
To commemorate the opening, free preview screenings for residents are being held over two days, on the 17th and 18th. In particular, a special screening of the animated film 'Emergency! King Butt Hero' for over 300 children from local daycare centers and kindergartens received an enthusiastic response.
Gangjin Cinema consists of two theaters with a total of 88 seats, equipped with state-of-the-art facilities for both 2D and 3D screenings. A concession stand selling snacks such as popcorn is also available. Admission is 7,000 KRW for regular movies and 9,000 KRW for 3D movies. Discounts are available for national merit recipients, people with disabilities, youth, and seniors, allowing them to watch movies for 6,000 KRW.
With standard movie ticket prices exceeding 20,000 KRW and OTT platforms dominating the market these days, Gangjin Cinema is expected to present a new viewing culture with its reasonable prices and community-focused services.
Governor Kang Jinwon stated, "The emotional impact a single movie can have on a person is immense. We will continue to provide unwavering support so that Gangjin Cinema can firmly take root, allowing all residents to enjoy cultural experiences close to home."
He added, "Just 30 years ago, Gangjin was a hub of daily life, transportation, and culture, with theaters in Gangjin-eup, Seongjeon-myeon, and Byeongyeong-myeon. With the opening of the cinema, the launch of the Namhae Line railway this fall, the opening of the Gangjin-Gwangju expressway next year, and the completion of the Kkachinaejae Tunnel, we will make Gangjin an even more vibrant and livable place through active exchanges between regions."
Gangjin Cinema will officially begin regular screenings on the 19th, with four to five showings daily. Detailed screening schedules and reservations can be checked on the official Gangjin Cinema website, Movieae, or at the on-site ticket booth.
