Daejeon City announced that it will actively promote improvement projects for child, senior, and disabled protection zones in order to strengthen the safety of vulnerable road users and improve road environments.

The projects will include the installation and maintenance of speed bumps, enhancement of crosswalk visibility, maintenance of traffic lights and safety signs, and expansion of protective fences.

The city will also strengthen crackdowns on illegal parking and stopping within protection zones and work to establish a pedestrian-centered traffic system.

With a total budget of 4.5 billion KRW, the city plans to begin improvements in 172 urgently needed protection zones, starting with areas at high risk of accidents, and later expand the project throughout Daejeon.

To implement these projects, Daejeon will prepare customized improvement plans by actively reflecting the opinions of traffic experts and local residents, and will also operate campaigns and educational programs to enhance traffic safety within protection zones.

Nam Sideok, Director of the Daejeon City Transportation Bureau, said, "We are promoting the improvement of protection zones with the safety of vulnerable road users as our top priority," and added, "We will create safer road environments through continuous inspections and improvements."
