The Army announced on the 18th that the 3rd Corps conducted a nighttime naval firing exercise along the coastal area of Goseong, Gangwon Province, on the 16th and 17th. This exercise was planned to establish a response posture against enemy fire provocations and to strengthen the capability to conduct counter-fire operations.

About 300 soldiers from the 22nd Infantry Division, 3rd Artillery Brigade, and direct units under the 3rd Corps participated in this exercise. Additionally, more than 40 key firepower assets of our military, including counter-battery radar, unmanned aerial vehicles, K9A1 self-propelled howitzers, K55A1 self-propelled howitzers, Cheonmu, and K105A1 wheeled self-propelled howitzers, were deployed.

The exercise began with the counter-battery radar detecting enemy fire provocations. The command post relayed the coordinates of the provocation origin to the artillery units on standby, and the artillery units accurately conducted counter-fire according to the firing orders. Subsequently, the corps and artillery units confirmed the firing results through unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and utilized the C4I target distribution system to conduct re-firing within the shortest time possible, demonstrating the friendly forces’ rapid and precise fire readiness posture.

Colonel Choi Yong-ho, commander of the 22nd Division Artillery Brigade, who led the exercise on site, stated, "The unit maintains a close surveillance, detection, and strike system to prepare for enemy surprise artillery provocations even during peacetime," adding, "If the enemy provokes, we will respond immediately with overwhelming firepower."

Meanwhile, prior to the exercise, the 3rd Corps promoted the training plan through safety text messages and announcements starting five days in advance to ensure the safety of local residents, and issued navigation warnings two days before. During the firing, on-site activity teams were deployed at major ports and beaches, and in cooperation with the Coast Guard, maritime vessels were controlled, prioritizing public safety throughout the exercise.

The Army stated, "We are committed to establishing military readiness by continuously conducting realistic, combat-focused training to overwhelmingly respond to any enemy provocations."
