Gwangyang FEZ Authority Focuses on Safety Management
and Proactive Accident Prevention

Gwangyang Bay Area Free Economic Zone Authority (Commissioner Koo Choonggon, hereafter referred to as Gwangyang FEZ Authority) visited the development project sites in the Gwangyang Bay Area Free Economic Zone on the 17th to inspect the status of safety management in preparation for summer storm and flood disasters.

The 'Hwayang District Beach Condo Development Project,' which was inspected on this day, is an accommodation facility project with a total project cost of approximately 375 billion KRW, consisting of 274 rooms in a building ranging from 6 underground floors to 10 above-ground floors. The project is currently in the civil engineering phase, having started construction in November last year, and the groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for the 29th.

This inspection focused on disaster-vulnerable elements such as embankments, retaining walls, and cut slopes that are susceptible to ground weakening during the rainy season. The inspection thoroughly checked for soil erosion and ground subsidence, the installation of safety facilities, the maintenance of drainage systems, and the management of construction materials storage, among other safety management systems at the site.

As a result of the inspection, minor issues were immediately corrected. Going forward, regular inspections and preventive safety management activities will continue for major development sites in the jurisdiction, including the Hwayang District.

In addition, the inspection went beyond simple facility checks to include the establishment of workplace safety and health management systems and the status of safety and health education by job category. Communication with on-site workers was also strengthened to create a safe working environment free from serious accidents.

Koo Choonggon, Commissioner of Gwangyang FEZ Authority, stated, "Proactive safety measures are the top priority for accident prevention," and added, "We will do our utmost to ensure that the sites are managed as disaster-free workplaces through continuous inspections and the implementation of safety management."
