What to Do When Finding an Elderly Person with Dementia?... Dementia Prevention Drill at Wusin Middle School in Guro-gu

Guro-gu (Mayor Jang In-hong) conducted a hands-on simulation training for the 'G-Bro (Home) Project' to prevent the disappearance of elderly dementia patients at Wushin Middle School on the 17th.

The 'G-Bro (Home) Project' is part of a missing prevention initiative aimed at preventing the disappearance of dementia patients and establishing a rapid response system. It is designed to protect dementia patients and strengthen the social safety net.

This training was divided into two parts?missing prevention education and practice?for first-year students at Wushin Middle School to help them understand the issue of dementia patient disappearance and develop response skills.

In the first part of the hands-on simulation training, 'Missing Prevention Keeper Training' was conducted, and participating students were appointed as 'Missing Prevention Keepers.'

The education was provided by the Guro-gu Dementia Safety Center and Guro Police Station to about 90 students, covering △Understanding dementia △Characteristics of wandering and missing dementia patients △Proper reporting methods in case of disappearance △Response guidelines upon discovery. In the second part, a simulation training for responding to missing elderly dementia patients was conducted. Students experienced how to respond quickly and effectively in real situations through practical exercises such as finding wandering identification tags and filling out and submitting QR code-based reports.

After the training, pre- and post-awareness surveys were conducted, along with a satisfaction survey for participating students. Jang In-hong, Mayor of Guro-gu, stated, "The issue of dementia patient disappearance is not just an individual problem but an important task that the community must solve together. We will continue to establish practical missing prevention measures and work with residents to create a safe community."
