Kwon Ohjung: "16,000 Illegal Banners Cracked Down in January Alone"
The "Partial Amendment Ordinance on the Management of Outdoor Advertisements and Promotion of the Outdoor Advertising Industry in Cheonan City," proposed by Council Member Kwon Ohjung of the Cheonan City Council in Chungnam, passed the standing committee on the 16th.
This amendment was prepared to respond strongly to the indiscriminate posting of illegal advertisements throughout the city, especially guerrilla-style banners related to apartment sales.
The detailed changes include: ▲ Up to double fines for repeated or intentional violations ▲ Fines for advertisements obstructing passage may exceed 5 million KRW ▲ Inclusion of sandwich boards and youth-harmful advertisements as subjects of increased fines.
Kwon Ohjung stated, "When you look at apartment sales banners, there are more than 15 hung at 10-meter intervals, causing inconvenience to pedestrians and damaging the city's appearance at the same time," adding, "These days, companies even factor in fines when setting advertising costs and put up banners without any hesitation."
He continued, "In January alone, there were 6,000 crackdowns in Dongnam-gu and 10,000 in Seobuk-gu," adding, "We have established strong legal grounds to prevent recurrence so that the hard work of our staff does not go in vain."
The amendment will be finalized after passing the plenary session and is scheduled to take effect immediately upon promulgation.
