"Factory Investment Costs Reduced by 30%"... KCCI and Ministry of Industry Launch Manufacturing AI Expansion Initiative

Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy: "Building Specialized Industrial AI Models and Agents Is Essential"
Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry: "Public-Private Cooperation Is Crucial to Secure Leadership in Manufacturing AI"

The Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy held a seminar on the 'Manufacturing AI Policy (M.A.P)' on the 17th at the Chamber of Commerce building in Jung-gu, Seoul, sharing cases of industrial artificial intelligence (AI) utilization and policy directions.

In the keynote speech, Professor Jang Young-jae of KAIST said, "The recent expansion of major US information technology (IT) companies into manufacturing could pose a threat to Korea," adding, "We must also hasten AI-based manufacturing strategies."

Professor Jang cited the case of logistics automation company Daim Research, explaining, "By utilizing AI digital twin technology to shift from manual operation of processes to a virtual system controlling physical robots, factory investment costs were reduced by 30%."

At the seminar, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy introduced this year's policy directions based on the '10 Major Tasks for the Spread of Industrial AI.'

The ministry plans to promote intelligence and autonomy through the establishment of specialized AI models centered on industrial sites and industrial AI agents, focusing on building data utilization systems, nurturing talent, and creating a collaborative ecosystem among companies.

Lee Seung-ryeol, Director of Industrial Policy, stated, "Unlike general-purpose AI, industrial AI must focus on solving specific problems in production sites," adding, "It is time to leverage the characteristics of the domestic industry, which is strong in creative application and optimization."

Corporate presentations also followed. Um Jae-hong, Executive Director of DN Solutions, emphasized, "The effectiveness of AI application in the machinery and equipment industry depends on interoperability," and stressed, "Standardization and guidelines must be established under national leadership to enable industry participation and expansion."

Park Il-jun, Executive Vice Chairman of the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said, "Rather than indiscriminately expanding the scope of AI utilization, selection and concentration are important, with manufacturing AI at the center," adding, "As China is integrating AI into manufacturing based on its own technologies such as DeepSeek, Korea must also unite the public and private sectors to promote the spread of industrial AI."
