Hamyang County Hosts 'Goun Humanities Lecture' at Choe Chiwon History Park

"The Footsteps of Goun Choe Chiwon Left in Sangnim"

Hamyang County in Gyeongnam will host a humanities lecture titled 'Goun Humanities Lecture' on the 19th at the Choe Chiwon History Park within Sangnim Park, inviting the popular history lecturer Choi Taesung.


This lecture, under the theme 'Speaking to History - The Footsteps of Goun Choe Chiwon Left in Sangnim,' will focus on the historical background of how Goun Choe Chiwon, while serving as the governor of Cheollyeong County, came to create Sangnim, and his philosophical reflections. The lecture will last for about an hour and a half.

Lecturer Choi Taesung, who will lead the session, is a renowned history teacher beloved for his popular history content. He has contributed to the popularization of history through warm messages of hope and comfort to students, as well as moving and insightful storytelling. His best-known book, 'The Usefulness of History,' has sold over 230,000 copies and has resonated deeply with readers on the question, 'Why do we need to know history?'


This lecture is expected to not only promote the historical value of Choe Chiwon History Park and Sangnim Park, but also provide residents with a meaningful opportunity for new perspectives and humanities insights.


An official from the Hamyang County Cultural Facilities Office stated, "We hope this lecture will allow residents to engage more interestingly with the historical stories contained in Sangnim and provide an opportunity to reflect once again on the achievements of Choe Chiwon. History should be open to everyone, and we wish for this event to become a place where everyone can share its meaning together."


The Choe Chiwon History Park was established to honor the philosophy and achievements of Goun Choe Chiwon, providing vivid historical education to residents and tourists through various exhibitions and experiential events. This humanities lecture is expected to further enhance the park's purpose and serve as an opportunity to highlight the importance of local cultural heritage.
