Democratic Party Proposes Legalization of 'AI Lawyer and Home Doctor'

On the 15th, the Democratic Party of Korea proposed a small and medium-sized enterprise (SME) support policy centered on allowing 'AI lawyers' and 'AI home doctors' services.

Kwon Chil-seung, chairman of the Democratic Party's Special Committee on SMEs, said at a press conference at the National Assembly Communication Office, "We have officially proposed this to the Democratic Party Policy Committee and will strive to have it reflected in actual policy."

Chairman Kwon emphasized, "Our SMEs are facing a triple crisis of high interest rates, high exchange rates, and high inflation, along with complex difficulties such as technology leakage, supply chain crises, and the burden of digital transformation," adding, "It is time for fundamental solutions rather than temporary measures."

The core content of the policy includes the legalization of AI-based legal and medical services. Chairman Kwon explained, "The goal is to create an environment where our citizens can tangibly experience the benefits of rapidly advancing AI technology," and added, "Since AI-based professional services are a global trend, we will seek development directions together while communicating with existing professional fields such as lawyers and doctors."

Regarding possible opposition from professional organizations, he responded, "We have had several discussions with the Bar Association, and the differences have been significantly narrowed," and "The medical community is also familiar with the concept, having experience with non-face-to-face medical treatment during COVID-19."

Additionally, a plan to flexibilize working hours to revitalize venture companies and startup culture was proposed. Chairman Kwon stated, "We will ease regulations to allow core strategic personnel, whose performance is directly linked to rewards, to set autonomous working hours within the statutory working hours."
