Gwangju Nam-gu to Hold 30th Anniversary 'Nam-gu Residents' Day' Event on the 18th

Gwangju Nam-gu (District Mayor Kim Byungnae) announced on the 15th that it will hold the 'Nam-gu Residents' Day' event to mark the 30th anniversary of the district's establishment.

On the afternoon of the 18th, the Nam-gu Residents' Day event will be held at the Nam-gu Culture and Arts Center, with District Mayor Kim Byungnae, Gwangju Mayor Kang Gijung, local members of the National Assembly and local council members, as well as about 400 residents in attendance. The event will last for 90 minutes, beginning with a celebratory performance, followed by a commemorative address, congratulatory speeches, and an awards ceremony honoring Nam-gu residents who have dedicated themselves to the development of the local community.

The pre-ceremony stage will feature performances. Users of the Hyocheon Life Culture Center, students from Dongil Mirae High School, and gugak musician Lee Heoryeon will take the stage, presenting a fashion show, K-pop dance, and traditional Korean music. In addition, the Nam-gu Choir will open the event by singing the residents' song.

Along with this, an awards ceremony will be held for residents who have set an example in five fields: community service, filial piety, culture, arts and sports, community development, and education.

Residents Jo Jeongsuk, Jo Jeonggwan, Park Youngman, Lee Hyeonik, and Ahn Jeongjun will receive awards representing each field. Jo Jeongsuk, who lives in Sajik-dong where there are many elderly households, has planned various welfare projects and contributed to creating safe alleys. Jo Jeonggwan, a doctor at Gwangju Se-gwang Hospital, has been devoted to filial piety, caring for his widowed mother for over 60 years since the age of 47. Park Youngman, former executive vice president of the Nam-gu Sports Association, contributed to securing finances for the association and improving the treatment of junior coaches.

Lee Hyeonik, as the head of the Gwangju branch of the Korean Veterans Welfare Policy Research Institute, has helped neighbors in need by distributing coal briquettes, donating food, and holding charity events every year. Ahn Jeongjun, principal of Gwangju Girls' Commercial High School, has contributed to creating a school free of violence and increasing the employment rate of graduates.

In addition, the event will conclude with performances by the Eutteumhyo Nam-gu Hanmaeum Art Troupe and the Nam-gu Choir.

A district official stated, "Thanks to the wisdom and strength that residents have united and contributed over the past 30 years, we have achieved great progress in all areas of administration," adding, "We will continue to work together with residents to make Nam-gu an even better place."
