Hwasun Chonnam National University Hospital (Director: Min Jungjun) is leading the way in realizing future healthcare by pioneering innovation in emergency medicine using artificial intelligence (AI).
Hwasun Chonnam National University Hospital recently announced on the 15th that it held an international symposium at its Future Medical Innovation Center under the theme "Innovation in Emergency Medicine Using AI Technology." The event was co-hosted by Hwasun Chonnam National University Hospital and its Biomedical Research Institute, with the Department of Emergency Medicine serving as the main organizer.
The symposium brought together AI emergency medicine experts from Korea and abroad to share field experiences and the latest technologies, seeking practical solutions for medical innovation.
The keynote lecture that opened the symposium was delivered by Professor Cha Woncheol of Samsung Medical Center. Under the theme "Medical AI from the Perspective of Hospital Platforms: Digital Innovation," he insightfully presented strategies for implementing AI in hospital environments and the future direction of digital healthcare innovation.
The first session introduced various cases of AI utilization in emergency medical settings overseas. Professor Yih Yng Ng from Nanyang Technological University in Singapore presented "Innovative Digital Technologies for Disaster Medical Education in Singapore," sharing cases of digital innovation in education for disaster response. Next, Professor Yohei Okada from Duke-NUS Medical School in Japan introduced "Experiences of AI Application in Japanese Emergency Medical Services," sharing real-world experiences of AI adoption in emergency settings.
The second session focused on the integration of emergency medical response and AI technology in the pre-hospital phase. Professor Lee Sunyoung from Seoul National University Hospital analyzed the current state of Korea's emergency medical system based on the "2023 Emergency Quality Indicators."
Professor Ko Seoyoung from Jeju National University Hospital presented cases of applying AI ECG interpretation systems, highlighting the potential for AI in field ECG analysis. The session concluded with Joyce Kong from Laerdal Medical in Norway, who introduced innovative cases of CPR training using metaverse and AI, drawing significant attention.
The third session addressed AI-based emergency medical innovation strategies focused on the Gwangju-Jeonnam region. Kim Jaehyuk, Director of the Regional Emergency Medical Center at Suncheon St. Carollo Hospital, presented a regional emergency medical model tailored to local characteristics through "Emergency Medicine in Jeonnam with AI."
Lee Seungmi, a nurse from the Rapid Response Team at Hwasun Chonnam National University Hospital, shared experiences of implementing an AI-based patient monitoring system, while Professor Cho Yongsu from Chonnam National University Hospital presented "Planning an AI-Based Optimal Emergency Patient Transport System," suggesting ways to optimize emergency patient triage and transport.
Jung Yoojin, Head of the Emergency Medical Center at Hwasun Chonnam National University Hospital, stated, "This symposium was a valuable opportunity to share the latest trends in AI emergency medicine technology at home and abroad, and to discuss innovative emergency medical solutions tailored to local needs. I hope this will lead to active exchange and collaboration so that AI technology can be practically applied in medical settings."
Min Jungjun, Director of Hwasun Chonnam National University Hospital, commented, "As AI is being applied in real life, the medical environment is also rapidly changing. This symposium was a very meaningful occasion to share how AI technology is being integrated into emergency medicine and how it can be implemented in actual hospitals."
