700 Million Won Donated by Former Chairman Lee Hancheol
500 Million Won Allocated for Public Transportation Development in Mokpo
Mokpo City, Jeonnam, announced on the 15th that it had signed an agreement on the 14th in the city hall situation room with former Mokpo Chamber of Commerce and Industry Chairman Lee Hancheol for a donation of 700 million won.
In 2023, former Chairman Lee Hancheol officially announced the end of the city bus operation he had managed for over 60 years. At that time, he stated his intention to cooperate with the city to minimize inconvenience for citizens and to make a donation for social contribution after the business ended.

Accordingly, Taewon Passenger and Yujin Transportation have been operating city buses under emergency management since June 2023, and promoted route reorganization with Mokpo City in February last year. With preparations for the introduction of public buses completed by the end of December, the business was terminated on December 31.
Former Chairman Lee Hancheol said, "There were both good and bad times during the 60 years of operating city buses, but I am glad to end it with a social contribution. I feel relieved to be able to say goodbye to the city buses I was attached to, as Mokpo City has taken its first step toward innovation with the introduction of public buses."
Acting Mayor and Deputy Mayor Lee Sangjin expressed his gratitude, saying, "Even in difficult circumstances, former Chairman Lee Hancheol fulfilled his social responsibility as a local entrepreneur. I hope he will continue to serve the community and contribute to the development of Mokpo."
Meanwhile, of the 700 million won donation, 500 million won will be used in the public transportation sector, reflecting former Chairman Lee Hancheol's wish to continue contributing to the development of public transportation in Mokpo. The remaining 200 million won will be donated to the Talent Development Foundation and the Social Welfare Foundation, with 100 million won each to be used for scholarships for local students and protection of the socially disadvantaged.
