The Boston Office is the third office established in the United States following the LA Office (2008) and New York Office (2012), where Seoul National University Hospital performed medical support functions. It is significant as the first global base specialized in research and development and technology commercialization.
The Boston Office is located in the Boston Cambridge Innovation Center, the world's largest bio cluster. This area is home to over 1,000 biopharmaceutical companies such as Moderna and Pfizer, as well as world-renowned research institutions including MIT, Harvard University, and Massachusetts General Hospital.
As part of the Ministry of Health and Welfare's specialized research institute project, Seoul National University Hospital plans for the Boston Office to serve as a 'triangle hub' connecting research, industry, and talent. Through this, it aims to ▲ analyze global advanced bio industry trends and discover new research and business opportunities ▲ identify, plan, and closely manage international joint research projects with Harvard Medical School, MIT, Stanford, and others ▲ support the training of next-generation physician-scientists and key researchers ▲ establish commercialization strategies for promising domestic technologies, discover early-stage bio startups, and support local investment attraction, thereby leading the globalization of K-Bio.
In particular, the hospital plans to strengthen global research collaboration on various key projects underway at the specialized research institute, and quickly establish commercialization strategies through local surveys and networking. Additionally, by linking with programs such as the Boston Korea Joint Research Support Project, it will create synergy and collaborate with the Korean researcher network in the Boston area to discover next-generation talent and integrate global advanced bio technology trends into domestic research and industry.
Hospital Director Kim Young-tae said, "The opening of the Boston Office will be an important stepping stone to accelerate the global advancement of K-Bio," and added, "We will do our best to ensure that the Boston Office contributes to the development of Korea's advanced bio industry by preparing commercialization strategies in cooperation with the national strategic technology specialized research institute, domestic and international joint research teams, and domestic companies."
