On the 15th, Samsung E&A announced that it had signed a preliminary EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) contract related to the 'Falcon Biodegradable Plastic Project' with Emirate Biotech, a bio company in the UAE.

This project involves constructing the Middle East's first eco-friendly plastic production facility within the Khalifa Economic Free Zone in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the UAE. Upon completion, it is expected to produce 80,000 tons of biodegradable plastic annually. Biodegradable plastic is an eco-friendly plastic made from raw materials extracted from corn, sugarcane, and other sources.

According to the contract, Samsung E&A will perform basic design of the production facility and EPC budget estimation tasks. Additionally, through this contract, the company has secured a new customer and entered the eco-friendly plastic sector, which has been experiencing increasing global demand recently, for the first time.

The contract signing ceremony held locally was attended by top executives from both companies, including Namgung Hong, President of Samsung E&A, and Mark Verbruggen, President of Emirate Biotech.

A company official stated, "We will successfully carry out the project with our abundant plant execution experience and differentiated technological capabilities to gain the trust of the client and strengthen our position in the eco-friendly plant sector."
