Six Families Serving Three Generations in the Marine Corps
Receive the "Distinguished Military Service Family" Plaque
The Marine Corps held its 76th anniversary ceremony on the 15th. Commander Ju Il-seok of the Marine Corps stated, "We must continue to unite and harmonize under the Marine Corps flag and become a trusted people's military for the nation."
The Marine Corps announced that the anniversary event was held at the Marine Corps Headquarters under the supervision of Commander Ju. The ceremony was attended by about 400 people, including Seong Il-jong, Chairman of the National Defense Committee of the National Assembly, Ahn Kyu-baek, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea, former commanders, reserve and active-duty soldiers, sister organizations, and related agencies.
In his commemorative speech, Commander Ju emphasized, "Today's Marine Corps exists because of the sacrifices and dedication of our predecessors who gave their lives for the country like dust, and the sweat and passion of all current members who strive to continue this legacy."
Additionally, Commander Ju awarded the 'Core Values (Loyalty, Honor, Challenge) Award' to exemplary soldiers and civilian employees. In the 'Loyalty' category, Sergeant Lee Joo-won (Special Reconnaissance Battalion), who played a major role in the evacuation operation of our citizens during the Cheonghae Unit dispatch and the rescue of civilians at typhoon damage sites, was recognized. In the 'Honor' category, Captain Park Min-wook (2nd Division), who personally practiced the Marine Corps' tradition of benevolence through cardiac arrest citizen rescue and regular sponsorship, was honored. In the 'Challenge' category, Grade 5 Han Kyung-seop (Headquarters), who promoted the aggressive introduction of excellent and innovative products to improve soldiers' barracks living conditions and realize a Marine Corps equipped with advanced science and technology, received the award.
Furthermore, the Marine Corps selected six families who have served in the Marine Corps for three generations and presented them with the Marine Corps Military Service Distinguished Family Certification Plaque. Sergeant Lee Se-min, who chose the path of a Marine as the 1302nd recruit following his grandfather (Marine Corps 15th class), who participated in the Korean War, and his father (NCO 189th class), who served as a Marine Corps non-commissioned officer, expressed, "I am very pleased that the dedication of my beloved grandfather and father is honorably recognized by the Marine Corps I chose."
Meanwhile, all Marine Corps units held anniversary ceremonies at various units including the Northwest Islands, Gimpo·Ganghwa, Pohang, and Jeju Island to commemorate the 76th anniversary of the Marine Corps founding.
