Overseeing Communication with the U.S. Government
Deep Understanding of Trump Administration Policies
Hyundai Motor Group announced on the 15th that it has appointed former U.S. Congressman Drew Ferguson as the new head of the HMG Washington Office. He will be responsible for overseeing communication with the U.S. Congress, including the U.S. government, where policy variables have increased following the recent imposition of tariffs on imported vehicles.
Ferguson, the new head, served as the mayor of West Point, Georgia, from 2008 to 2016, contributing to regional economic development and job creation. As a member of the Republican Party, he served as the U.S. Representative for Georgia's 3rd congressional district from 2017 to 2024, for eight years.
From 2019 to 2023, he acted as the Republican House Deputy Whip, coordinating Republican legislative strategies. He is particularly known for his deep understanding of the policies of the Trump administration.
During the first term of the Trump administration, he actively supported and promoted key policies such as the revival of U.S. manufacturing, job creation, and tax reform. He played a central role in advancing legislation to strengthen the manufacturing base within the Republican Party.
Additionally, having served in legislative activities for a long time in Georgia, where Hyundai Motor Group’s major U.S. production bases such as Hyundai Motor Group Meta Plant America (HMGMA) are located, he is also regarded as being familiar with Hyundai Motor Group.
A Hyundai Motor Group official explained, "Based on Ferguson’s deep understanding of the entire U.S. legislative process and his experience coordinating various policies, he will play a key role in strengthening Hyundai Motor Group’s cooperation with the U.S. government and policymakers not only in the automotive industry but also in future new business areas such as robotics and UAM (Urban Air Mobility)."
