Seungro Lee, Seongbuk District Mayor, Rushes Directly to Andong, Gyeongbuk for Wildfire Damage

Donation and Goods Worth 155 Million KRW Delivered
Special Fundraising by Seongbuk-gu Officials and Residents

Seung-ro Lee, Mayor of Seongbuk-gu, Seoul, and a delegation of local residents visited Andong-si, Gyeongbuk, which suffered damage from a wildfire, to console the local residents and deliver donations. The donations will be designated and entrusted to Andong-si through the Gyeongbuk Governor's Social Welfare Community Chest.

Seongbuk-gu announced that on the 14th, donations prepared together by the residents and public officials of Seongbuk-gu to help the victims severely affected by the large wildfire in the Yeongnam region were directly handed over to Kwon Ki-chang, Mayor of Andong.


This special fundraising was conducted from the 31st of last month to the 11th of this month, collecting a total of 155,631,000 KRW in donations and goods. A total of 218 donations were made by 1,450 employees of Seongbuk-gu Office, Seongbuk Cultural Foundation, Seongbuk Urban Management Corporation, as well as residents, related organizations, groups, and companies, raising a total of 135,000,000 KRW in donations.


Before delivering the donations, on the 31st of last month, the district delivered about 1,000 pieces of clothing from the Fashion Sewing Association worth approximately 20,000,000 KRW, about 1,000 towels, about 300 pairs of shoes, and local sponsorship items from each neighborhood community center.


After the donation ceremony that day, Seung-ro Lee, Mayor of Seongbuk-gu, and the delegation of residents visited the wildfire damage site near Imha-myeon, Andong-si. At the site, Mayor Lee said, "I extend my deepest condolences to the victims who lost their homes due to the sudden wildfire," and added, "I sincerely hope that the warm hearts of Seongbuk residents will help the victims recover their daily lives as soon as possible."


Meanwhile, Seongbuk-gu continues to extend warm support to domestic and international communities affected by various disasters and calamities. In 2019, it donated 54,000,000 KRW for relief to victims of the Gangwon-do wildfire, and in 2022, it donated 124,000,000 KRW for wildfire relief to its sister city Samcheok.


During the 2023 earthquake in Turkey, a sister city, Seongbuk-gu donated 105,000,000 KRW for earthquake damage recovery along with 137 boxes of relief supplies including clothing, hygiene products, heating supplies, and daily necessities. Last year, it donated 8,600,000 KRW to the Korean Red Cross to support victims of the fire at the Arisel factory in Hwaseong.
