Mayor Jin took the initiative to personally check the site of the large-scale construction as sinkholes have been occurring nationwide, increasing residents' anxiety. At the underground tunnel construction site located 10 meters below ground, Mayor Jin thoroughly examined the excavation methods and on-site safety management measures to prevent sinkholes. He conducted a focused inspection of sinkhole prevention measures by comprehensively comparing sinkhole cases and causes that have occurred across the country.
Mayor Jingyohoon stated, "Not only do cases of ground subsidence, commonly known as sinkholes, occur even after construction is completed, but since it is directly related to residents' safety, please be thorough in sinkhole prevention and on-site safety management."
The Gwangmyeong~Seoul Expressway is a metropolitan transportation network project connecting Gwangmyeong City in Gyeonggi Province to Banghwa-dong in Gangseo-gu, Seoul. It is a 20.2 km long privately funded expressway, with 4.9 km of the section passing through Gangseo-gu.
Meanwhile, the district is currently conducting a joint survey of the roads under its management to prevent sinkholes caused by aging water and sewage pipelines in advance. The plan is to conduct focused exploration using Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR), which investigates underground structures by analyzing the results of high-frequency waves sent into vulnerable areas around underground facility construction sites and reflected back.
