On the 14th, Gwangju City held the '2025 First Youth Welfare Deliberation Committee' meeting in the main conference room at City Hall, appointing new committee members and discussing support projects for at-risk youth.
The newly appointed members were selected through an open recruitment process following the expiration of the previous members' terms. With this, the Gwangju City Youth Welfare Deliberation Committee is comprised of a total of 13 members, including 7 appointed members and 6 ex officio members. Their term will last for two years, from April 2025 to March 2027.
At the first meeting of the year held on this day, following the appointment ceremony, the committee discussed the 2024 performance results of at-risk youth support projects, reports from the Youth Counseling and Welfare Center, and support linkage for at-risk youth by institution.
In particular, the committee discussed customized support measures for children and youth facing social and economic difficulties, as well as for high-risk youth with increasing cases of suicide and self-harm, in addition to strategies for inter-agency cooperation within the youth safety net.
Lee Youngdong, Director of the Department of Women and Family, stated, "We expect the Youth Welfare Deliberation Committee to lay the foundation for at-risk youth in the region to grow up healthily," and added, "We will spare no effort to provide support so that youth can be safely protected by their families and society as they grow."
Meanwhile, the Gwangju City Youth Welfare Deliberation Committee has been operating since 2021 as a mandatory linkage institution related to youth welfare, establishing a continuous support system for at-risk youth, including youth counseling, protection, and welfare policy activation.
From 2021 to last year, the committee provided emergency support to over 620 at-risk youth, including establishing response systems during emergencies such as COVID-19. Recently, through the Youth Welfare Deliberation Committee, a cooperative council was formed with the Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education, Gwangju Police Agency, and the Gambling Prevention and Healing Center to seek collaborative measures.
