Pohang City has moved to strengthen its cooperation with the World Economic Forum (WEF) to foster the MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) industry and advance as a global city.
On the 14th, Mayor Lee Kangdeok of Pohang met with Lee Juwook, Director for Asia-Pacific at the World Economic Forum, over lunch at a restaurant in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, to discuss cooperation strategies between Pohang City and the WEF.

This meeting was a follow-up to the initial discussion between Mayor Lee and Director Lee in Geneva, Switzerland, during the mayor's business trip to Western Europe in November last year. It was arranged to further develop those discussions and establish a practical partnership.
Attendees included Mayor Lee and other Pohang City officials, with the main agenda focusing on expanding Pohang’s role in addressing global climate and economic issues.
In particular, they concentrated on practical cooperation measures such as attracting Pohang City events in conjunction with this year's APEC Summit in Gyeongju, and inviting speakers to the World Green Growth Forum (WGGF).
The city proposed hosting WEF-affiliated side events in Pohang during the upcoming APEC meeting, aiming to create opportunities for major Asia-Pacific companies and global investors to visit Pohang.
They also discussed the possibility of holding various global programs such as small-scale seminars, workshops, and business networking sessions.
Mayor Lee Kangdeok stated, "Ongoing cooperation with the World Economic Forum will be a crucial turning point for Pohang to actively engage with global agendas and grow as a sustainable city," adding, "We will continue to enhance Pohang’s global standing by collaborating with international organizations."
Building on these discussions, Pohang City plans to expand long-term cooperation not only with the World Economic Forum but also with various international organizations, accelerating the promotion of global partnership projects.
