Challenge for National Garden Status After Creating a 23-Hectare Garden
and Expanding Through Additional Projects
Cheonan City in Chungnam has officially begun a project to create a local garden in the area of the former military protection facility near the 3rd Ammunition Depot in Seonghwan-eup.
According to the announcement on the 14th, the city has designated a 23-hectare site in Daehong-ri, Seonghwan-eup as the planned location for the local garden.
This project aims to improve the quality of life for citizens and revitalize the local economy through the creation of a garden.
The city plans to invest a total project cost of 27.2 billion won (1.8 billion won from the province and 25.4 billion won from the city) to build a community center, campground, parking lot, and more, centered around five themed gardens.
Except for one plot, all the land is owned by the Ministry of Economy and Finance. The city plans to purchase the land as soon as possible and then order detailed design services.
If the project is not delayed during the permitting process, including the environmental impact assessment, construction will begin in January next year with completion expected by December 2028.
A city official stated, "In the long term, to apply for a national garden, it is necessary to create a garden of 30 hectares," and added, "After first establishing a local garden on 23 hectares, there are also plans to purchase additional land."
