Gwangju Transportation Corporation is drawing attention as it works to create a safer urban railway environment by securing national and municipal funding to significantly replace safety devices on escalators within stations.

Gwangju Transportation Corporation (President Cho Ikmun) announced on the 14th that the replacement work for two escalators at Geumnamno 4-ga Station, which began in December last year, has been completed and the escalators have resumed operation following safety inspections.

This project involved a complete replacement of aging escalators and the reinforcement of safety devices, such as anti-reverse mechanisms, to minimize noise and shaking during operation and further enhance passenger safety.

Since 2023, the corporation has been sequentially upgrading and replacing 99 escalators across all stations, with 95 units repaired to date. The remaining four units, including those at Geumnamno 4-ga Station and Munhwajeondang Station, are scheduled to be completed by 2027 through additional budget allocation.

A corporation official stated, "We ask for your understanding as passengers may experience temporary inconvenience during the elevator construction," adding, "We will continue to do our best to ensure the safety and convenience of citizens."
