"The Most Expensive Mobile Plan in Our Country, Revealed... Why a Famous YouTuber Targeted the Telecom Company"

YouTuber Itsub Exposes KT's Speed Reduction in 2021
"I Repeatedly Pointed Out the Issue, but Made Content Because Nothing Changed"

Information technology (IT) YouTuber 'Itsub' revealed the reason why he publicized KT's speed reduction issue in the past.

Itsub appeared as a guest on MBC's entertainment program 'Omniscient Interfering View' (hereinafter referred to as OIM) on the 12th. Itsub is the top tech creator in Korea with 2.67 million subscribers.

When host Song Eun-i said, "Companies that handle machines would probably be nervous when Itsub reviews their products," Itsub mentioned, "There were a few major incidents, and one that the public knows about is the internet speed reduction incident."

In April 2021, Itsub uploaded a video titled "I paid for the most expensive 10GB plan in Korea, but it was actually 100MB."

In the video, he said, "The internet service I subscribed to supported a maximum speed of 10GB and the monthly fee was about 90,000 won, but the speed was slow," adding, "When I contacted the customer center, KT said there was no problem on their side, and that the consumer had to keep measuring the speed and calling to get it resolved."

"Then I checked the speed and it was only 100MB," he claimed, "This was already the second time this happened."

Song Eun-i elaborated on the situation at the time, saying, "The 20,000 won plan was 100MB and the 80,000 won plan was 10GB. It was revealed by presenting evidence that although using 10GB, the speed was at the 20,000 won plan level."

In July of the same year, the Ministry of Science and ICT and the Korea Communications Commission imposed a fine of 500 million won on KT after an investigation.

Regarding the situation at the time, Itsub explained, "I didn't intend to blow it up on purpose," and said, "I told the manufacturer three times that there was a speed reduction. I kept saying this needed to be fixed, but since it didn't get resolved, I made content about it."

He added, "I heard it has improved a lot since then."
