Prosecutors Indict Former President Moon Jae-in's Son-in-Law on Bribery Charges

Prosecutors Indict Former President Moon Jae-in's Son-in-Law on Bribery Charges Yonhap News

The prosecution investigating former President Moon Jae-in for bribery allegations has recently indicted his former son-in-law, Seo Mo (45), as a suspect, following his daughter Dahye.

According to legal sources on the 11th, the Criminal Division 3 of Jeonju District Prosecutors' Office (Chief Prosecutor Bae Sang-yoon) recently indicted Seo without detention on charges of bribery. Earlier, Dahye, who was a witness, was also reclassified as a suspect on charges of bribery and violation of the Tax Offenses Punishment Act following a citizen group's accusation.

Accordingly, the suspects in this case have increased to six, including former President Moon, Dahye, Seo, former lawmaker Lee Sang-jik (bribery giver), Park Seok-ho, CEO of Thai Starjet (breach of trust in business), and former Blue House personnel chief Cho Hyun-ok, who was indicted last December (abuse of authority and obstruction of rights).

The prosecution is investigating the circumstances under which former lawmaker Lee, founder of Eastar Jet, who became chairman of the Small and Medium Business Corporation in March 2018, employed Seo as an executive director at Thai Starjet, a Thai-affiliated corporation he actually owns.

The prosecution finds it suspicious that Seo, who previously worked at a gaming company and has no practical experience in the aviation industry, was hired as an executive at Thai Starjet, and is focusing on whether there was any quid pro quo between Lee's appointment as chairman of the Small and Medium Business Corporation and the airline's hiring process.
