Gwangju Dong-gu (District Mayor Lim Taek) announced on the 11th that it will conduct the "2025 Dong-gu Intensive Safety Inspection" to strengthen the safety management system and preemptively inspect facilities with a high risk of disasters and accidents.
The inspection targets include a total of 78 sites across 12 facility types, such as multi-use facilities and bridges. The sites were selected based on central government criteria, resident surveys, and applications received through the resident inspection request system.
To ensure thorough inspections, private experts and responsible public officials will jointly inspect all areas, including structures, electricity, gas, and fire safety. Moving away from traditional visual and basic inspection methods, advanced equipment such as drones will be used to enhance the accuracy of safety inspections and to detect and address potential hazards early.
Depending on the inspection results for each facility, on-site corrections, detailed safety diagnostics, and emergency safety measures will be implemented. If necessary, the facility management entities will be requested to carry out repairs and reinforcements.
The inspection results will be analyzed and reported to inform future safety policies. They will also be recorded and managed in real time via a mobile app and transparently disclosed to residents through the National Safety Information Integrated Disclosure System.
The application period for the "Resident Inspection Request System" runs until the 30th, and priority inspections will be conducted on facilities requested by residents. This is expected to effectively address safety blind spots that residents experience. The district also plans to foster a resident-led safety inspection culture by collaborating with private organizations such as the local autonomous disaster prevention group, neighborhood watch, and safety monitoring volunteer group.
Lim Taek, Mayor of Dong-gu, said, "Through this intensive safety inspection, we will proactively eliminate safety blind spots in Dong-gu and establish a practical safety management system that residents can truly feel," adding, "We ask for your active participation and interest."
