Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism Promotes AI Copyright System at WIPO Standing Committee on Copyright

Cooperation System Expanded with Major Countries in Africa and Latin America

On the 10th (local time), the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism announced that it introduced South Korea's artificial intelligence (AI) copyright policies and efforts to protect K-Anmu copyright at the '46th Standing Committee on Copyright of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO)' held in Geneva, Switzerland. In particular, on the 4th day of the meeting, the 10th, during the 'AI-Copyright Information Meeting,' South Korea participated as a presenter alongside the United States, Japan, and the European Union (EU), presenting the achievements of the operation of the AI copyright system improvement consultative body and future plans.


Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism Promotes AI Copyright System at WIPO Standing Committee on Copyright Jeong Hyang-mi, Director General of the Copyright Bureau at the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, is giving a presentation on Korea's artificial intelligence copyright system at the 46th Standing Committee on Copyright and Related Rights (SCCR) of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) on the 10th (local time).

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism also expanded the copyright cooperation system by holding bilateral talks with major countries in Africa and Latin America. It signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) in the copyright field with Nigeria and signed an implementation plan based on the agreement concluded with Brazil last year. Additionally, bilateral talks were held with the United States, China, Singapore, and others to share legislative responses and precedents of each country, and meetings with WIPO officials were held to discuss business cooperation plans through a trust fund worth 958 million KRW paid annually.


Jung Hyang-mi, Director of the Copyright Bureau at the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, stated, "We have created an opportunity to spread South Korea's advanced copyright system to the international community and strengthen international cooperation to protect AI copyrights and Hallyu content." She added, "We will continue to cooperate with the international community to find the best solutions to address AI copyright issues."
