Promoting Smooth Traffic Flow During Commuting Hours
Expanding Hi-Pass Lanes from 4 to 6
Aiming for Opening Within the Year... 80,000 Vehicles Per Day
Gyeonggi Province is working with the private concessionaire Ilsan Bridge Co., Ltd. to expand the Hi-Pass lanes in order to alleviate traffic congestion on the Ilsan Bridge, which connects Gimpo City and Goyang City.
According to Gyeonggi Province on the 11th, the Ilsan Bridge is one of the key bridges crossing the Han River in the northwest metropolitan area, and residents have continuously experienced inconvenience due to repeated congestion during peak commuting hours. In response, Gyeonggi Province decided to proceed with facility improvements to enhance traffic efficiency in cooperation with Ilsan Bridge Co., Ltd.
Currently, out of the total 10 lanes at the Ilsan Bridge tollgate, 4 lanes operate as Hi-Pass lanes. Among these, 2 lanes equipped with the cash automatic collection system (TCS) will be converted to electronic toll collection system (ETCS) Hi-Pass lanes, expanding the total number of Hi-Pass lanes to 6.
The construction is scheduled to begin in the first half of this year and aims to open within the year, with efforts to complete it as quickly as possible so that residents can experience an improved traffic environment.
Additionally, to minimize inconvenience during the construction period, a phased construction method will be applied, and thorough safety management will be ensured. The number of vehicles using the Ilsan Bridge reaches 80,000 per day.
Meanwhile, Gyeonggi Province announced on the 20th of last month that it will freeze the toll fees for the Ilsan Bridge this year through consultation with Ilsan Bridge Co., Ltd.
Kim Young-seop, Director of the Road Policy Division of Gyeonggi Province, said, "Gyeonggi Province is making efforts to reduce the transportation cost burden for residents by freezing toll fees not only for the Ilsan Bridge but also for three private roads managed by the province, including the 3rd Gyeongin Expressway and the Seo-Suwon to Uiwang Expressway," adding, "We expect that expanding the Hi-Pass lanes will provide practical help in alleviating congestion during commuting hours."
