On the morning of the 10th, Oh Seung-rok, Mayor of Nowon-gu, visited the site of a fire at a multi-family housing complex in Gongneung-dong to inspect the scene and instructed measures for protecting disaster victims and recovery plans.
The fire broke out around 5:19 a.m. that day and was completely extinguished by 6:39 a.m. thanks to the prompt response of the fire authorities. The fire resulted in one death, seven injuries, and the emergency evacuation of about 50 residents.
The district immediately designated the Gongneung 2-dong Community Center as a temporary shelter and took urgent measures to prevent further damage and protect disaster victims, including broadcasting guidance to residents right after the fire.
Mayor Oh Seung-rok inspected the site and confirmed the response status together with related departments and fire authorities, and arranged temporary housing facilities at nearby accommodations. Currently, they are conducting on-site surveys of affected households to assess the situation and prepare practical support measures.
Residents affected by the fire can receive overlapping coverage from the Seoul Citizen Safety Insurance and Nowon-gu Resident Safety Insurance. The bereaved families of the deceased can receive up to 30 million KRW, injured persons can receive up to 20 million KRW in case of aftereffects disability, and medical expenses can be supported up to 100,000 KRW.
Oh Seung-rok, Mayor of Nowon-gu, said, "I offer my deepest condolences to the residents affected by the sudden fire," adding, "We will devote all administrative efforts to ensure that the damage is restored as soon as possible and that residents can return to their normal daily lives."
