On the 10th, Siheung City signed a 'Business Agreement for the Revitalization of Marine Tourism on Geobukseom Island' with Inwon Group Co., Ltd. at the city hall, attended by Mayor Im Byung-taek and Inwon Group CEO Kim Seung-min.

The agreement was promoted to revitalize the economy of the depressed Geobukseom area and promote marine tourism in connection with the government's policy task, the 'Siwha Lake Development Strategy Master Plan.'

According to the agreement, Inwon Group will build an aquarium with one basement floor and three above-ground floors on approximately 7,000㎡ of land within Neighborhood Park No. 50 in Siwha MTV. The aquarium's tank capacity will be 12,000 tons, which is larger than the current largest aquarium in Korea, Aqua Planet Jeju, which has 10,800 tons. Inwon Group aims to open the facility by 2028 and will proceed with the project, while the city will support administrative procedures for this.

Inwon Group is the company that built and operates the 'Aramaru Aquarium' in Sacheon-si, Gyeongnam. This place exhibits hippos underwater for the first time in Korea and houses unique species such as the only known Schubill in the country. The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism also selected this aquarium as one of the 'Top 100 Korean Tourist Attractions for 2025-2026.'

CEO Kim said, "We will create an internationally recognized aquarium that considers animal welfare and provides spaces for interaction with visitors."

Mayor Im said, "The newly established aquarium is expected to breathe new life into Geobukseom Island as a representative tourist hub in the western metropolitan area."
