GGM Labor and Management Begin Practical Wage and Collective Bargaining Negotiations

The labor and management of Gwangju Global Motors (GGM), which have been in conflict due to the breakdown of wage and collective bargaining negotiations, have entered into working-level talks.

According to GGM on the 10th, the labor and management held a working-level council meeting at the GGM conference room in Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju, that afternoon. It is reported that only some representatives from the union and management attended the meeting to discuss methods for wage and collective bargaining negotiations.

The union is said to be deciding whether to accept the mediation proposal put forward by the Gwangju City Labor-Management-Civil Administration Council depending on the progress of the negotiations. Labor and management plan to continue discussions by holding a second working-level meeting next week.

Meanwhile, during this year's wage and collective bargaining process, the union demanded a monthly salary increase of 159,200 won (about 7%), but management has maintained its stance that it cannot offer any additional increases beyond applying the 3.6% inflation rate decided by the Labor-Management Win-Win Council earlier this year, resulting in a continued standoff.

The Labor-Management-Civil Administration Council, as labor and management clashed during the negotiations, recommended that management provide a union office and deduct union dues collectively, while advising the union to withhold strikes until the production target of 350,000 units is achieved.
