KGA Completes 1st FAT for Supplying Core Equipment of All-Solid-State Batteries

KGA announced on the 10th that it has successfully completed the first Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) of electrode process equipment supplied to a U.S. global solid-state battery specialist. KGA is currently conducting the second FAT with an intermediate customer.

FAT is a stage to verify the normal operation of equipment before delivery to the customer. Typically, after passing the first and second tests, the equipment is installed at the customer's site, followed by a Site Acceptance Test (SAT). SAT is the stage to confirm the equipment's performance in an actual operating environment.

The equipment to be supplied includes the Coater and Slitter, which are key process equipment for manufacturing solid-state battery electrodes. The Coater uniformly applies electrode slurry?a mixture of cathode/anode active materials, conductive agents, and binders?onto a thin film current collector and then dries it with hot air. The Slitter precisely cuts the electrodes to match the battery pack size.

The U.S.-based global solid-state battery specialist, to which KGA’s equipment will be ultimately delivered, is a promising company that has attracted investments from major domestic and international secondary battery and complete vehicle companies and established cooperative systems.

A KGA representative explained, "We have strengths in designing and manufacturing customized process equipment based on long-standing know-how and technological capabilities in the secondary battery equipment field. In the case of the Coater, we have secured unique technological capabilities as the first in Korea to successfully localize the equipment."

He added, "Having successfully completed the first FAT, we plan to promptly finish the second FAT and proceed smoothly with customer site installation and SAT. We will further strengthen our competitiveness in the solid-state battery market and expand cooperation with global customers."

KGA is pursuing a merger with Samsung SPAC No.9.
