Mayor Kim: "We Will Listen to Citizens' Voices and Address Regional Challenges"
Gimpo City in Gyeonggi Province is accelerating the maintenance of urban infrastructure for citizen safety.
Mayor Kim Byung-su of Gimpo City, based on the administrative philosophy of the 8th elected term, "Administration that listens to the voices of citizens," has completed the full replacement project of streetlights on the main arterial road from Wolgot-myeon to Daegot-myeon. On the 10th, Kim Byung-su, mayor of Gimpo City, announced that the city has completed the full replacement project of streetlights on the main arterial road from Wolgot-myeon to Daegot-myeon, based on the administrative philosophy of the 8th elected term, "administration that listens to the voices of citizens."
The section in question spans approximately 6.5 km from Orijeong-ro in Wolgot-myeon to Daegot-ro in Daegot-myeon, passing through a total of five villages including Galsan-ri, Gomak-ri, and Songma-ri. This area has long faced safety concerns for nighttime pedestrians and vehicle drivers due to insufficient lighting and aging facilities.
In particular, the hill road extending from the Agricultural Technology Center toward Gomak-ri is a habitual danger zone with sharp curves and downhill slopes, where complaints about the high risk of traffic accidents during dark nighttime hours have been continuous.
Mayor Kim Byung-su personally listened to these voices from citizens at the New Year's meeting last year and strongly urged the search for solutions. Subsequently, the city inspected the site multiple times and decided to start by fully replacing 130 outdated lighting facilities along the approximately 6.5 km stretch from Galsan-ri in Wolgot-myeon to Songma-ri in Daegot-myeon with high-efficiency LED lights. Mayor Kim instructed to secure citizen safety by investing a total project cost of 144 million KRW.
As a result, the streetlights along this road section covering five villages have been completely replaced, transforming the area into a brightly lit space and thoroughly alleviating citizens' concerns. Especially, the hill road from the Agricultural Technology Center toward Gomak-ri, which was highly dangerous, has noticeably improved, enhancing drivers' visibility and significantly reducing the risk of accidents.
Gimpo City plans to gradually improve the nighttime environment of major urban roads starting with this project. Additionally, the city will conduct regular inspections and maintenance, and carry out supplementary construction as needed to establish an optimal lighting environment.
Mayor Kim Byung-su stated, "Gimpo City always prioritizes the safety of its citizens above all else," and added, "We will continue to listen more closely to citizens' voices and resolve inconveniences and dangers throughout the region."
