[Special Stock] US Treasury "Korea Wants to Participate in 64 Trillion Won Alaska LNG Project"…Irem, Dongyang Steel Pipe and Related Stocks Up

Donald Trump, the President of the United States, is showing interest in participating in the Alaska liquefied natural gas (LNG) project through tariff negotiations, boosting the stocks of Irem and Dongyang Steel Pipe.

As of 9:37 AM on the 10th, Irem is trading at 1,010 KRW, up 3.48% from the previous day. Dongyang Steel Pipe is trading at 1,451 KRW, up 6.61%.

On the previous day, Scott Baesant, the U.S. Treasury Secretary, told reporters at the White House in Washington that "the tariff delay is a measure to secure time for negotiations."

When asked what President Trump aims to achieve through tariffs, he mentioned the Alaska LNG project and said that South Korea, Japan, and Taiwan have shown interest in this project. The industry interprets this as a move to demand renewed industrial investment in the U.S. using tariff negotiations as leverage.

The Alaska natural gas pipeline project promoted by the U.S. involves constructing a 1,300 km long gas pipeline to transport natural gas. It is expected to require an investment of about 45 billion USD (approximately 64 trillion KRW).

Meanwhile, Irem has obtained certifications from major global classification societies including the Korean Register (KR) and is reliably supplying steel pipes for shipbuilding, including LNG. From 2020 to 2023, Irem’s shipbuilding steel pipe sales recorded a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of about 146.6%, showing rapid growth. Recently, Irem expanded its special steel pipe facilities in line with the domestic shipbuilding industry's order boom.

Dongyang Steel Pipe, a steel pipe manufacturer, produces products related to natural gas and oil pipelines. Its main products include gas pipes, oil pipelines, steel pipe piles, steel pipes for piping, coated steel pipes for water supply, and seismic-resistant angle pipes. It is especially known to be closely related to the government’s large-scale social overhead capital (SOC) investments and global energy projects.
