"Morning Showers Are a Big Mistake, You Should Wash in the Evening"… Expert Warning

Evening Showers Are More Effective
for Skin Health and Quality Sleep

Experts have stated that showering in the evening is more effective for improving skin health and sleep quality than showering in the morning.

On the 8th (local time), the UK Daily Mail cited opinions from several medical professionals, stating, "Showers should always be taken at night, not in the morning," and added, "Taking a shower in the morning instead of the evening is a big mistake."

Dr. Giuseppe Aragona from a health institution argued, "Morning showers can help awaken the senses, but evening showers provide more health benefits." He explained, "During the day, allergens, irritants, dust, and grime can accumulate on the body and hair. Especially in summer, pollen, chemicals, and sweat can contaminate the skin. If you go to bed without showering, these contaminants transfer to your bedding. This can trigger allergies at night and cause skin problems such as itching, irritation, dryness, and acne."

Dr. Jason Singh, a physician from Virginia, USA, also recommended showering in the evening rather than the morning. He said, "Evening showers are very effective in improving sleep quality, washing away contaminants, and moisturizing dry skin." He added, "Taking a warm shower stimulates the secretion of melatonin, a hormone that signals the body it's time to sleep. During the towel-drying process, body temperature drops to an appropriate level, and these two factors combined lead to better sleep." He further noted that people with skin troubles such as acne or eczema, or those with dry and sensitive skin, should shower in the evening, saying, "Nighttime is when skin cells regenerate, so moisturizing at this time prolongs the hydration effect."

However, there is also a warning against showering both morning and evening. Frequent showers can remove the natural oil barrier that protects the skin, potentially damaging skin cells. According to the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School at Rutgers University, showering more than twice a day can cause dryness and dullness of the skin and hair. Experts advise using moisturizing cleansers or oils if you need to shower twice a day due to sweating from exercise or other reasons.
