Jung In-kyo, Head of the Trade Negotiation Department at the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, met again with Jaymeison Greer, the United States Trade Representative (USTR), whom he first met in March, to convey South Korea's concerns regarding the U.S. tariff measures announced on the 2nd (local time).

The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy announced on the 10th that Head Jung visited Washington D.C., USA, on the 8th and 9th (local time) and held consultations on major trade issues through meetings with key U.S. government officials including Jaymeison Greer, USTR Representative, William Kimit, Senior Advisor at the Department of Commerce (nominee for Deputy Secretary of International Trade), and Jeffrey Kessler, Deputy Secretary of the Department of Commerce’s Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS).

Head Jung also held his first meeting with key officials from the U.S. Department of Commerce. He discussed U.S. trade policies including the U.S. tariff measures with William Kimit, nominee for Deputy Secretary of International Trade, and explored cooperation measures for establishing a stable global supply chain with Jeffrey Kessler, Deputy Secretary of BIS. The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy reported that both sides shared the recognition that South Korea and the U.S., as mutually trustworthy partners, will continue consultations to strengthen supply chains and economic security.

Head Jung evaluated that a broad framework for negotiations on the U.S. tariff measures has been established based on the favorable momentum created through the phone call between Acting Prime Minister Han Duck-soo and former U.S. President Trump. He stated, "Based on the discussions held this time, we will continue consultations with the U.S. on major trade issues including the U.S. tariff measures and make every effort to minimize the damage to our industries."
