Jungnang-gu, CCTV Real-Time Monitoring Leads to Theft Suspect Arrest

Jungnang-gu (Mayor Ryu Gyeong-gi) is playing a significant role in apprehending thieves in the act through real-time intensive monitoring at the integrated CCTV control center, effectively serving as the '365-day Guardian of Residents' Safety.'

On March 30th at around 12:40 a.m., a report was received by the police stating that "someone stole cash from inside a vehicle." The police requested concentrated monitoring cooperation from the Jungnang-gu CCTV Integrated Control Center. In response, the center immediately conducted intensive monitoring and closely observed the area around the reported scene. They detected a suspect with a similar appearance attempting to steal from another vehicle. The center continuously relayed the suspect's location and movements in real-time until the police arrived, assisting in the suspect's apprehension in the act.

To protect the lives and property of residents, the district has built a dense safety network by installing a total of 5,392 multipurpose CCTVs up to this year. Last year, 880 units were installed in alleyways, playgrounds, and park trails, and by the end of April, 55 more units will be installed to create a safer park environment.

In particular, the district is actively introducing an AI-based intelligent selective monitoring system and a high-speed search system to accelerate proactive crime prevention. The 'Intelligent Selective Monitoring System' uses artificial intelligence technology to detect movements such as loitering, falling, and assault, alerting the integrated control center in real-time. The 'High-Speed Search System' is effective in locating specific individuals such as missing persons, dementia patients, and criminals.

Furthermore, the district plans to become a city with an even more complete social safety network through continuous inspections of facilities such as CCTV cameras and emergency bells.

Ryu Gyeong-gi, Mayor of Jungnang-gu, stated, "Along with expanding CCTV coverage, we will continuously strengthen monitoring using intelligent technology to fulfill our role as the 24/7 guardian of residents' safety throughout the year." He added, "We will do our best to ensure that residents can enjoy their daily lives safely and happily."
