Jinju Mayor Cho Kyu-il, who serves as the president of the Gyeongsangnam-do Mayors and County Governors Association, has been actively consoling residents in areas affected by recent large-scale disasters in the province and supporting swift recovery efforts.
The association, in response to the large wildfire that broke out in the Sancheong-gun area between March 21 and 30, gathered the collective will of the province's mayors and county governors and, on April 8, the executive members of the association personally visited Sancheong-gun and Hadong-gun, which suffered severe damage.

President Cho and Vice President Kim Yooncheol, the head of Hapcheon-gun, visited both local governments heavily affected by the wildfire and each delivered a donation of 10 million KRW. The donations reflected the heartfelt wishes of Gyeongnam's mayors and county governors to provide practical help to residents who lost their livelihoods and fell into despair due to the sudden disaster.
The donations delivered this time will be used through organizations such as the Gyeongsangnam-do Community Chest of Korea to support the livelihoods and housing stability of residents affected by the wildfire, and will also be utilized in recovery efforts in the damaged areas.
On March 24, President Cho Kyu-il personally visited the joint memorial altar in Changnyeong-gun, where there were significant casualties, to pay tribute to the victims. On April 1, the Gyeongnam Mayors and County Governors Association provided a priority donation of 10 million KRW to Changnyeong-gun, which suffered heavy human losses.
Meanwhile, the Gyeongnam Mayors and County Governors Association is composed of the heads of 18 cities and counties in the province and holds regular meetings once every quarter to discuss joint response measures to local issues. Through this, they are building a cooperative system to resolve regional imbalances and promote mutual development.
President Cho stated, "I hope that this can provide at least a small comfort to the residents who are suffering greatly from the sudden disaster," and added, "We will continue to ensure that all cities and counties in Gyeongnam cooperate and respond together in times of crisis."
