Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism's Discussion and Field Opinion Gathering Forum on the 'Basic Plan for Art Promotion'

On the 10th, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism announced that it will hold the sixth session of "Art Policy Stories at 3 PM" at Art Korea Lab Agora in Jongno-gu, Seoul, to discuss the direction for establishing the "Basic Plan for Art Promotion (2025?2029)" with field experts and stakeholders.


"Art Policy Stories at 3 PM" is a weekly Thursday forum where the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism introduces its ongoing art policies in depth by topic and collects opinions from the art community.


At this forum, Dr. Byeon Ji-hye from the Korea Culture and Tourism Institute, who is conducting the "Mid- to Long-term Art Promotion Policy Research," will present an analysis of the achievements and limitations of past mid- to long-term art promotion plans, changes in domestic and international environments, and propose directions for mid- to long-term policies. Following this, the Ministry will announce the overall direction and key tasks of the "Basic Plan for Art Promotion" and gather field opinions.

After the keynote presentation, discussions will be held by policy area, including training of art professionals, creation of regional art ecosystems, revitalization of the art market, and overseas expansion of Korean art. Professors Park Shin-ui from Kyung Hee University, Kim Hye-in, Head of the Art Policy Research Office at the Korea Culture and Tourism Institute, Professor Joo Yeon-hwa from the Graduate School of Culture and Arts Management at Hongik University, and Lee Hyun-hee, Chairperson of the Seoul Auction Appraisal Committee, will participate as discussants in their respective fields, offering opinions based on their field experience and expertise. Afterwards, various stakeholders from the art sector will freely exchange views to explore ways to enhance the effectiveness and practicality of art promotion policies.


Lee Jeong-woo, Director of the Culture and Arts Policy Office at the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, stated, "The Basic Plan for Art Promotion is significant as it is the first statutory plan established since the enactment of the 'Art Promotion Act.' We will develop a systematic art promotion policy reflecting the changed environment and new demands across the art sector, and support the sustainable growth of Korean art through fostering a healthy art ecosystem and establishing a solid market foundation."
