Trump Postpones Reciprocal Tariffs for Countries Other Than China
Raises Tariffs on China to 125%
Howard Lutnick, U.S. Secretary of Commerce, criticized China on the 9th (local time) for not being ready to cooperate with the United States immediately after President Donald Trump raised tariffs on China to 125%.
On the same day, he shared President Trump's post on the social networking service X (formerly Twitter) and stated, "The world is ready to cooperate with President Trump to resolve trade issues, but China has chosen the exact opposite path."
President Trump announced on his own social media platform, Truth Social, that the implementation of country-specific reciprocal tariffs would be postponed for 90 days for countries other than China. Since the 5th, the U.S. has applied a universal tariff of 10% to all countries, and from this day, country-specific reciprocal tariffs have been enforced considering each country's trade barriers. With this measure, U.S. trading partners are only subject to the 10% universal tariff.
However, President Trump immediately raised the reciprocal tariff rate on China to 125%. This is the second retaliatory measure in response to China's counter-tariffs.
