On the 9th, Siheung City held a groundbreaking ceremony for the 'Janghyeon Multipurpose Gymnasium' and 'Bandabi Sports Center' at Janghyeon District Sports Park in the 703 area of Janghyeon-dong, attended by Mayor Im Byeong-taek, City Council Chairman Oh In-yeol, provincial council members, sports organization leaders, and local residents.
The Janghyeon Multipurpose Gymnasium is a facility promoted to expand sports infrastructure within the district and support citizens' healthy leisure activities. In particular, the city is also constructing the 'Bandabi Sports Center,' a dedicated facility on the same site to promote sports activities for people with disabilities and ensure their participation opportunities. The Bandabi Sports Center is being built with national funding support following its selection in the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism's public contest for the establishment of a 'National Sports Center for People with Disabilities Close to Daily Life.'

The two facilities will be developed with a total gross floor area of 12,503㎡. The multipurpose gymnasium will be a building with one basement floor and three above-ground floors, equipped with a multipurpose gymnasium, 10 badminton courts, spectator seats, and shower rooms. The Bandabi Sports Center will be constructed with one basement floor and two above-ground floors. It will include a 25-meter swimming exercise facility with three lanes, a gymnasium, an exercise prescription room, and a gateball court.
The project will invest a total of 43.9 billion KRW, including 7.3 billion KRW in national funds, 300 million KRW in special grants, 33 billion KRW from the city budget, and 3.3 billion KRW from other sources, with completion expected by the end of next year.
Mayor Im Byeong-taek of Siheung said, "The Janghyeon Multipurpose Gymnasium and Bandabi Sports Center will be sports spaces where both people with and without disabilities can come together," adding, "We will continue to do our best to create a sports environment for the healthy lives of our citizens."
