Boryeong Chukhyeop President Given Suspended Prison Sentence for Sexual Harassment of Female Employee

Supreme Court Dismisses Final Appeal
By-election Schedule Being Coordinated with Boryeong Election Commission

Boryeong Chukhyeop President Given Suspended Prison Sentence for Sexual Harassment of Female Employee

The head of Boryeong Livestock Cooperative in Chungnam has been sentenced to prison by the Supreme Court on charges of sexually harassing a female employee, leading to a by-election for the cooperative head position.

On the 4th, the Supreme Court dismissed the appeal of Mr. A, the head of Boryeong Livestock Cooperative, who was indicted for violating the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment of Sexual Crimes (sexual harassment by abuse of occupational authority). As a result, the original sentence of one year in prison with a two-year suspended sentence was finalized.

Previously, on February 7, the Daejeon District Court acknowledged Mr. A’s sexual harassment of a female employee and sentenced him to a suspended prison term.

Mr. A had been tried without detention on charges of sexually harassing female employee Ms. B in 2014 after asking her to book a motel room while intoxicated and then committing the act inside the room.

With Mr. A’s sentence finalized by the Supreme Court, he has lost his position as head of the cooperative. Boryeong Livestock Cooperative is currently coordinating with the Boryeong City Election Commission to schedule the by-election.

An official from the cooperative stated, "The Supreme Court’s written verdict has not yet been delivered, so Mr. A is expected to step down on the 10th," adding, "We are currently discussing the by-election schedule with the election commission."
