An operator who disguised an illegal gambling arcade as a cryptocurrency mining facility has been caught by the police.
Gwangsan Police Station in Gwangju announced on the 9th that they have booked and are investigating an individual identified as A on charges of violating the Game Industry Promotion Act. A is suspected of operating an illegal arcade by installing 50 gaming machines and 2 kiosks in an office in Gwangsan-gu earlier this month.

According to the police, A modified a free mobile game and charged users a fee of 50,000 won per hour, paying out cash based on the game score. The operation was disguised as cryptocurrency mining, and the police stated that A camouflaged the arcade under the pretense of coin exchange.
The total amount of money traded through this arcade is estimated to be around 140 million won. The police seized 50 gambling machines and 2 kiosks at the scene, and are expanding their investigation to include accomplices who participated in the crime with A.
Chief Jung Kyungho stated, "We will actively prevent the resurgence or spread of illegal arcades even after crackdowns."
